Sorrow and Teasing Song

Bartók was born in Nagyszentmiklos, Hungary (now Sînnicolau Mare, Romania).  He studied piano with Istvan Thoman and composition with Hans Koessler at the Royal Academy of Music in Budapest. Later he taught piano there. He was a contemporary and friend of Kodaly. He collected many Hungarian folk songs which had a great influence on his work.
