Born in somewhere in Texas and settling in Sedalia, Missouri, Scott Joplin played piano and cornet with touring bands including performances in Chicago at the World's Fair.
He studied at the George R. Smith College in Sedalia.  He published "The Maple Leaf Rag" in 1899.  In 1901, he moved to St. Louis where he devoted most of his time to composition and teaching.  "The Favorite" was written in 1904.
He aspired to opera writing (Treemonisha) but with limited success in his lifetime.
There was a revival of interest in ragtime music in the 1970's when Scott Joplin was finally recognised as having made a significant contribution to American music.
This set comprises three pieces: Easy Winners, The Favorite and Elite Syncopations.
