Nicola Shorland has recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she studied the flute with Ian Clarke, Philippa Davies, Sarah Newbold and Averil Williams. She has also performed in masterclasses with William Bennett, Wissam Boustany, Michael Cox, Paul Edmund-Davies and Daniel Pailthorpe.

While still at school, at The Chase in Malvern, she played with many county orchestras. She was principal flute with the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra and Wind Orchestra and also played principal 'cello with the Worcestershire Youth Orchestra. She also played principal second flute with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain and very much enjoyed their tour to Ireland under James Gourlay.

She played in the English Symphony Orchestra Young Orchestra for three courses and gained invaluable experience from all of them. She particularly enjoyed the two opportunities to play with the ESO in charity concerts at the Three Counties Show Ground.

In 2004 Nicola was delighted to win the Gloucestershire Young Musician of the year award. This led to performing a recital in the Cheltenham International Festival of Music. She has performed concertos with the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Singapore, Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Conservatoire Junior School Orchestra, Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra and Worcestershire Youth Orchestra. Recently she has been working with the Amadeus Orchestra including touring China, with Opera Della Luna touring in England and Wales and Regency Sinfonia.

She currently teaches at Berkhampstead School and Richard Pate in Cheltenham and three schools in the Worcester area. Nicola is an accredited Suzuki Flute teacher who also learnt by the Suzuki Method with Susie Alington.
